Art has always been an extension of who I am. I cannot imagine a day without creating and exploring or rearranging and expanding. Ceramics has offered me an opportunity to design original pottery with colorful patterns that reflect the world around me.
I work in clay, either in an off-white stoneware or a mid-range white porcelain. Most of my work is made using a combination of wheel-throwing, hand building and darting (removing sections of clay to alter the form). The surfaces are a combination of colored slips and original drawings sealed under a clear glaze.
I live with my husband on the edge of a small woods that has primarily maples, shag bark hickory and oak trees. These provide an ever changing panorama of colors, textures and patterns that inspire many of the ideas for the surface of my very colorful ceramics.
